Buddhism is the Western term for the teaching of the Buddha or the religion founded by the Buddha. In the East it is known as the Buddha-Sasana.

‘Buddha’ is not aname. It is a title, meaning the Enlightened One or the Awakened One. The Buddha’s personal name was Siddhattha1 and his clan name was Gotama.2 Thus he was sometimes called Siddhattha Gotama. Few people, however, now make use of these names. They simply call him the Buddha or Gotama the Buddha.

The Buddha lived twenty-five centuries ago in North India. He was born a prince of the Sakyan kingdom which was located at the foot of the Himalaya. His father, who was the king ruling over the Sakyas, was called Suddhodana. The Queen who was the Prince’s mother was called Maya. As a prince, he grew up in the midst of luxury, led the happy life of a privileged youth and married Princess Yasodhara. His beautiful cousin, who bore him a son, Rahula.

The princely luxurious life, however, could not shut the eyes of a wise and thoughtful person like him from the realities of life, Thus, in spite of his father’s efforts to keep his mind attached to the world and satisfied with the enjoyment of the sensual pleasures within the palace gates, he became aware of the dark side of life, the sorrows of his fellow beings and the fleeting nature of all worldly things.

This happened for the first time when he took chariot rides in the streets of his father’s capital, Kapilavastu. Then he saw four sights which altered his whole life. The first three of them – a man feeble with old age, another with a grievous disease, and a corpse – filled him with a longing to find some way to help his fellow men and to discover the true meaning of life. The fourth sight, a monk, gave him a hope of the possibility of learning about Truth and finding a way out of suffering.

Then, at the age of 29, Prince Siddhattha left his father’s palace, left his dearly loved wife and newborn son, and led the life of a wandering ascetic, devoting himself to finding some way of overcoming suffering.
First of all, he went to two foremost Brahmin ascetics who taught him the highest stages of the Yoga mystic practices. Unsatisfied with these teachers, he went on to practise self-mortification until he realized that such practices were foolish and useless. Six years of experiment in the forest led him to the conclusion that the well-worn paths of Yoga and asceticism did not lead to wisdom. He then gave up these practices and went on his own way , applying the reflective thought of conscious meditation to a rational simple life of moderation.

At the full moon of May, forty-five years before the Buddhist Era, while sitting under the Bodhi tree at Gaya, he found his answer and at-tained the Enlightenment. The Great Man, now known as the Buddha, went first from Gaya to Sarnath mear Benares where he gave his first sermon in the Deer Park. From then through the remaining 45 years of his life, he wandered from place to place teaching his discoveries to all who would listen to him and organizing his followers who renounced the world to form the Sangha.

At last, at the age of eighty and in the year 543 B.C.1 , the Buddha fell ill while on his way to Kusinara3 , capital of the Malla State. Even in the face of death his mind moved towards others. He told Ananda, his faithful attendant, to console Cunda, the poor blacksmith from whose house the Buddha ate his last meal with indigestible pork,3 that his food-offering was of great fruit and merit and that he should not blame himself for the food. On his deathbed under two Sal trees in the Sala Grove of the Mallas, he explained to his disciples that they would not be left without the Teacher , for “the Doctrine and Discipline I have taught you, that shall be your Teacher, when I am gone.” And his last words were : “Behold now, monks, I exhort you. Subject to decay are all component things. Work out your salvation with diligence.”

Though it is now more than 2500 years since the passing away of the Buddha, the Dharma he taught remains our Teacher as he himself named it. The Sangha which consists of the followers who study, prac-tise and disseminate the Dharma, has received this torch of light from the torchbearer himself and carried it on and on to us throughout lands and centuries. The three of them – the Buddha, the founder; the Dharma, the teaching; and the Sangha, the Order of disciples – form the Triple Gem which all Buddhists value the best of all precious things, and the Threefold Refuge which guides them on the Path of the true good life. Each year on the Visakha Full Moon, throughout the world, millions of men and women gather together to commemorate the birth, enlightenment and passing away of this Great Man.

The Birth reminds them of the fact that a man, by training himself through his own effort and intelligence, can achieve supreme attainments even to be a Buddha; the Enlightenment, that only through the discovery of the Buddha did the timeless Dharma become known to the world; and the Passing Away, that though the Buddha as a person was gone, the light of the timeless Dharma will still be kept shining so long as there is a Sangha , a community of righteous followers, to carry on the torch by treading the path of self-enlightenment themselves and helping others towards the same goal.

This is going to seem like a stupid question, but please no bad comments.

What is flirting really? I dont really know what it is. And how do you flirt? My friends always tell me to flirt with a guy if i like him, but i dont really know how to…any help?

I get the answer

there are different ways of flirting but it’s usually kind of serious but jokingly at the same time.

For example, if you accidentally spilled paint on a guy, you say “you look better now” and giggle it off. it’s flirting because you’re implying that he looks good before getting paint spilled on.

Another flirting would be like when you guys walk together and your arm keeps touching his arm. you are basically trying to hint him to hold you hand.

Flirting is hinting him that you are interested/like him. at a young age, boys does not know what flirting is also or cannot see signs if you like him. boys are slow, it’s best if you were just to tell them straight up that you like him, actually, that would make the boy feel a bit weird so it’s better to tell him that he is cute then from then on, he’ll make the rest of the moves.

Flirting with men is so fun and so simple. So why don’t we do it? One man recently wrote me that it was true that flirting was a great way for women to attract men, but he was “yet to experience this from a woman, must be fun!”

Men LOVE it when women flirt with them! They love the fun aspect of it: the playful banter, the dance of eye contact, and the sheer joy of being surprised by the unexpected.

Best of all, flirting is immensely flattering. It’s an indication of interest in another person, even if that interest is not romantic in nature. The best flirts know how to make the other person feel special without expecting anything in return.

If you are going to improve your flirting skills with men, here are three tips that will give you a SUPER flirting mindset.

1. Flirting is playful, not serious.

If you give a man a compliment, are you flirting? If you make eye contact, does it count as a flirtation? If a stranger teased you when you were walking up to the bar, was he flirting? What exactly IS flirting, anyway?

Flirting is distinguished by its playful nature. You cannot be a serious flirt. Remember how boys used to tease you in grade school, and you used to tease them back? That’s the kind of playful spirit you want to invoke while flirting (although I don’t recommend pulling anyone’s pigtails!).

A flirtatious encounter will usually involve three elements:

Humor (or wit),

Risk, and

A display of interest.

For example, a witty comment is one common way to start flirting with someone, but by being the first to make a move, you’re putting yourself at risk of rejection. If your flirtatious comment pushes boundaries, you’re also taking the risk that the other person may not find your sense of humor amusing.

Beginning flirts may find it uncomfortable to put themselves in the vulnerable position of displaying their interest in another person without knowing whether that person will even respond. That’s why the next point is so important.

2. The best flirts practice on everyone.

You’ll never become a great flirt if you only flirt with men you like. Flirting is one of life’s greatest joys, and it should be practiced whenever and wherever possible. Flirt with the waiter at the coffee shop. Flirt with the bus driver. Flirt with the old man standing behind you in line.

When flirting becomes part of your daily life rather than a specialized skill that you apply only when you meet a potential Mr. Perfect, you’ll find that magic starts to happen. You make friends more easily. You become the life of the party. You find it easier to strike up a conversation with strangers.

Best of all, when flirting feels natural to you, you no longer will feel awkward when faced with a handsome man that you’d like to know better. You’ll feel confident, because you know that other people have enjoyed your flirting. You won’t even have time to get nervous, because your flirting skills will kick in and start the conversation for you.

But being the best flirt in the world won’t protect you from the one thing that every flirt must face: rejection.

3. Don’t take rejection personally.

The one sure way to kill the spirit of flirtation is to see it as in terms of success and failure. As I said earlier, your goal is simply to make the other person feel special without expecting anything in return. If the other person doesn’t want to return your comment, or wink back, it’s no more devastating than a playmate saying that they don’t want to play right now.

Luckily, your chances of rejection are lower than you think. Most people go through life wishing for greater connection with others. When we’re standing in a crowded elevator or waiting in line at a busy shop, most of us would love someone to start a conversation with us. It can be such a delight to meet someone new, even if our conversation only lasts for a few minutes.

Think of your flirtation as an offering: you’re offering someone the possibility of connection, and if they don’t want to take it, you simply offer it to the next person.

Sadly, the art of flirting has declined so greatly that many people don’t know what to do when someone flirts with them. They may feel uncomfortable and turn away or ignore the flirtatious glance or comment, because they have no clue what they should do.

If you keep a playful mindset while flirting, and practice it whenever and wherever you can, you’ll find that your fears of rejection dissipate until you can no longer remember why you let them keep you from making the first move.

For a further discussion of flirting tactics, look no further than How to Be Irresistible to Men. Sarah Paul’s original e-book will teach you how to use flirting to take your interactions with a man to that next level. You’ll also learn how to be funny, how to master the art of conversation, and how to give compliments to a man. It’s everything YOU need to know about flirting, in an easy step-by-step format. And it’s all part of the complete How to Be Irresistible to Men course, which includes advice on how to kiss and how to overcome any shyness that may be preventing you from flirting with men.
